Moves Dance Company (MDC) is the competitive dance program at Moves Dance Studio in Wheaton, IL. MDC dancers train at a higher level, commit to 2–3 days per week of structured training, and compete regionally each season. The program runs August through June and culminates in both an annual spring recital and regional competition season.
MDC is more than a competitive team — it's a family. Dancers develop extraordinary technical skills, but they also build discipline, leadership, resilience, and friendships that last a lifetime. Our families consistently describe MDC as a transformative experience.
MDC Divisions
Every dancer is placed in the division that best fits their age and current level. All divisions perform in the annual recital and compete regionally.
Munchkins
Ages 3–4 · New!
Our newest division — an introduction to company dance for the very youngest MDC dancers.
Lil' Divas
Ages 4–6
Our youngest division — building foundational skills and a love for performance in a nurturing, age-appropriate environment.
Primas
Ages 7–9
Building foundational skills with increased technique expectations and first competition experiences.
Prodigies
Ages 9–12
Intermediate competitors developing advanced skills, performance quality, and competitive experience.
Icons
Ages 12–15
Advanced dancers showcasing refined technique, versatility across styles, and strong artistic expression at competition.
Elites
Ages 14–18
Our highest-level team — representing Moves at regional and national competitions with pre-professional training and performance standards.
Life in MDC
Season: August – June
The MDC season runs alongside the regular dance year, with the spring recital in May/June and regional competitions throughout the spring.
2–3 Days Per Week
MDC requires a 2–3 day weekly training commitment, depending on the division. Dancers train in group dances, technique, and optionally solos/duos/trios.
Regional Competition Season
MDC competes at 5–6 Midwest competitions each season, with national competition opportunities on even years for qualifying dancers.
Annual Spring Recital
All MDC dancers perform in our annual spring recital alongside recreational students — a major celebration of the year's work.
No Prior MDC Experience Needed
Auditioning does not commit you to MDC. If accepted, you have until May 30th to sign — after you've seen all the details.
Open to New & Existing Dancers
Both current Moves students and brand-new dancers are welcome to audition. Ages 3–18, any experience level.

Auditions for the 2026–2027 Season
MDC auditions are held every May. Auditioning is free and doesn't commit you — you have until May 30th to decide after you've seen all the details.

Competitive Dance FAQs
Any dancer ages 3–18 is welcome to audition — including brand-new students who have never danced at Moves before. No prior MDC experience is required. Dancers are placed in the division that best fits their current level.
MDC requires 2–3 days per week of training, depending on the division (younger divisions require fewer days). The season runs August through June and includes the annual recital and 5–6 regional competitions.
No. Auditioning is completely non-committing. If your dancer is accepted, you have until May 30th to sign the agreement — after you've received all the details about schedule, tuition, and what to expect. Many families attend auditions just to explore the option.
